Dr. Julie Goldenson
Speaker Bio
Dr. Julie Goldenson is registered in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to practise in Clinical and Forensic Psychology with adult and adolescent populations. She currently provides assessment, treatment, consultation, and supervision in her private practice. Her clinical practice has been fostered in a number of settings; e.g., University of Toronto, the Toronto District School Board and San Diego State University.
Dr. Goldenson has also been well prepared to perform assessment, treatment, and research in forensic psychology through a formal post-doctoral fellowship in this area in association with the Mental Health, Law and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University, through work at various inpatient and outpatient forensic psychiatric facilities, and her work within the context of the American legal system. She is retained in civil litigation cases related to historical child abuse, and she also is retained in cases related to criminal proceedings. Her keen interest in the interplay between psychology and the legal system inspired the creation of an interdisciplinary committee under the OPA aimed at creating more trauma-informed legal practises.
Coming from a scientist-practitioner model, Dr. Goldenson has had a number of academic appointments. She was the Assistant Program Head at the University of Guelph-Humber and is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto (OISE), where she teaches at the Masters and Doctoral level. Dr. Goldenson continues to be involved in research and has a number of first author publications related to female offenders, adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and psychological assessment.
She is an active member Program in Psychiatry and the Law in association with Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Harvard Medical School and is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Canadian Association of Psychologists in Disability Assessment, the Association for Treatment of Sexual Abusers, the American Psychology-Law Society, the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services, and the Society for Personality Assessment
