Speaker Bio
Dr. Ally Rooney is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in the Robert Fergusson Unit, Edinburgh, which is Scotland's national rehabilitation unit for patients with acquired brain injury and challenging behaviour. He studied medicine at Dundee University before training in clinical (MD) and laboratory research (PhD) at the University of Edinburgh. His research interests include the psychiatric complications of having a brain tumour, and neuroplastic mechanisms of antidepressant response.
In lockdown during the pandemic he joined a few UK colleagues to compile a weekly blog about the emerging literature on neuropsychiatric complications of Covid-19. Under the leadership of Dr. Tim Nicholson (a Neuropsychiatrist at King's College London) this small initial project has grown into an international collaboration of nearly 50 clinical academics with over 30,000 blog views, while systematically reviewing on the acute and chronic neuropsychiatric consequences of having Covid-19, and teaching key collaboration and research skills to students and trainees.
