Description

Story Medicine is an Indigenous community partnered adaptation of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET). It was developed as a possible trauma treatment for family members of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and focuses on using stories to provide healing. With Indigenous community input, we conducted a  small proof of concept study to assess whether Story Medicine reduced levels of PTSD, anxiety, and depression at different timepoints among family members who had lost loved ones. Our presentation will cover how NET was culturally adapted, provide an overview of the therapy sessions, cover preliminary research findings, and finally, discuss what we as Story Medicine therapists learned throughout Story Medicine.
