Description
The prevalence of behavioural and emotional disorders among Canadian youth is high—15-20% of youth have serious mental health problems. These problems are often chronic and lead to significant impairment in school, home, and community functioning. One root cause of mental health difficulties is being bullied by peers. Indeed, longitudinal studies point to a causal relation between exposure to bullying and subsequent mental health problems. Importantly however, not all youth become unwell as a consequence of poor peer treatment. In this presentation, the heterogeneity in mental health outcomes of bullied youth will be discussed.
